Achill Sound is zowel de naam van de zeestraat tussen het Corraun schiereiland en Achill Island als de naam van het dorp dat aan beide kanten van de straat ligt. In het Iers is de naam van het dorp Gob An Choire. De brug die de twee delen van het dorp verbindt, is vernoemd naar de Ierse revolutionair Michael Davitt.
Achill Sound is both the name of the sea channel that separates the Corraun Peninsula from Achill Island and the name of the village that straddles the channel. The Irish name for the village is Chob An Choire. The bridge that connects the two parts of the village is called after the Irish revolutionary Michael Davitt.
