Since 1973 they consider Polranny, Achill Sound, Co Mayo, Ireland their hideaway.

De Polranny Pirates bieden kunstenaars, schrijvers, musici en anderen die op een creatieve manier bezig zijn een verblijfs- en werkruimte tegen kostprijs.
After years of a loosely organized informal existence forever on the brink of financial ruin the Polranny Pirates in 2008 finally became a not for profit foundation. The foundation was set up to manage the property and put it to use as an Artist in Residency.

Na jaren te hebben bestaan als een ongestructureerde groep vrienden die nooit wisten waar het geld vandaag moest komen om de vaste lasten voor het huis te betalen, werd in 2008 Polranny Pirates een Stichting die op een officiele manier het huis ging beheren en uitbaten ten behoeve van bezoekende kunstenaars.

The majority of artists that stay with the Polranny Pirates come through a small advert in BK Informatie a Dutch magazine for the professional artist. Only a small part come through other channels: through friends, Facebook or the website of Trans Artists.
Het merendeel van de kunstenaars die komen werken in Polranny komt via een kleine annonce in BK Informatie het blad waarin alle openbare opdrachten gepubliceerd worden. De rest komt via vrienden, Facebook of de website van Trans Artists.

The name Polranny Pirates was coined by Annie Wright in the early Nineties. In begin negentiger jaren kwam Annie Wright met de naam Polranny Pirates

My collaboration with visiting artists/Mijn samenwerking met bezoekende kunstenaars
In February 1974 Dutch photographer Con Mönnich worked for a month in Polranny. In 2016 he came back on a visit and brought the black and white photographs he made in 1974. Con and I made it a project to show his pictures to as large a possible audience on Facebook and in subsequently exhibitions in which my sketches had a place.

In februari 1974 werkte de Nederlandse fotograaf Con Mönnich in Polranny. In 2016 kwam hij terug met de zwart wit foto’s van toen. Er ontstond een samenwerking tussen hem en mij om de foto’s bekendheid te geven bij een zo groot mogelijk publiek. Dat gebeurde via Facebook en verscheidene tentoonstellingen waarin mijn tekeningen ook een rol speelden.
Coby Prins kwam als bezoekend kunstenaar naar Polranny. Ze was zo enthousiast over het initiatief van de Pirates dat ze haar atelier op de Silodam in Amsterdam ter beschikking stelde aan de Polranny Pirates. Het maakte de cirkel rond met Het Kerend Tij / The Turning Tide
Coby Prins came to Polranny as visiting artist. She appreciated the Pirates’ initiative so much that she offered her studio on the Silodam in Amsterdam to the Polranny Pirates. Het Kerend Tij / The Turning Tide came around again.
